Surah Al-Inshiqaq

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 84:1 ▶

   إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ ﴿١﴾

   idha s-samā'u nshaqqat

   When the sky has split [open]

2. 84:2 ▶

   وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿٢﴾

   wa'adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat

   And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

   It will have heard Allāh's command and will have inclined immediately to compliance and willing obedience.

3. 84:3 ▶

   وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ﴿٣﴾

   wa'idha l-arḍu muddat

   And when the earth has been extended

   i.e., stretched flat and spread out.

4. 84:4 ▶

   وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ﴿٤﴾

   wa'alqat mā fīhā watakhallat

   And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

   Of the dead and all else buried therein.

5. 84:5 ▶

   وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿٥﴾

   wa'adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat

   And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –

6. 84:6 ▶

   يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ ﴿٦﴾

   yā'ayyuha l-insānu 'innaka kādiḥun 'ilā rabbika kadḥan famulāqīh

   O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

   i.e., striving throughout your life until you meet your Lord, hastening toward death.

   i.e., you will find all that you intended and accomplished awaiting you in the Hereafter. Another meaning is "And will meet Him [i.e., your Lord]" and be recompensed in full by Him.

7. 84:7 ▶

   فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ ﴿٧﴾

   fa'ammā man 'ūtiya kitābahū biyamīnih

   Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

8. 84:8 ▶

   فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا ﴿٨﴾

   fasawfa yuḥāsabu ḥisābay yasīrā

   He will be judged with an easy account

9. 84:9 ▶

   وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا ﴿٩﴾

   wayanqalibu 'ilā 'ahlihī masrūrā

   And return to his people in happiness.

10. 84:10 ▶

    وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ ﴿١٠﴾

    wa'ammā man 'ūtiya kitābahū warā'a ẓahrih

    But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

11. 84:11 ▶

    فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا ﴿١١﴾

    fasawfa yadʿū thubūrā

    He will cry out for destruction

12. 84:12 ▶

    وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ﴿١٢﴾

    wayaṣlā saʿīrā

    And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

13. 84:13 ▶

    إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا ﴿١٣﴾

    innahū kāna fī 'ahlihī masrūrā

    Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

14. 84:14 ▶

    إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ﴿١٤﴾

    innahū ẓanna 'al lay yaḥūr

    Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

15. 84:15 ▶

    بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا ﴿١٥﴾

    balā 'inna rabbahū kāna bihī baṣīrā

    But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

16. 84:16 ▶

    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ ﴿١٦﴾

    falā 'uqsimu bish-shafaq

    So I swear by the twilight glow

17. 84:17 ▶

    وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ﴿١٧﴾

    wallayli wamā wasaq

    And [by] the night and what it envelops

18. 84:18 ▶

    وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ﴿١٨﴾

    wal-qamari 'idha ttasaq

    And [by] the moon when it becomes full

19. 84:19 ▶

    لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ ﴿١٩﴾

    latarkabunna ṭabaqan ʿan ṭabaq

    [That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.

    i.e., various stages, both in this life and in the Hereafter.

20. 84:20 ▶

    فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٢٠﴾

    famā lahum lā yu'minūn

    So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

21. 84:21 ▶

    وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ ﴿٢١﴾

    wa'idhā quri'a ʿalayhimu l-qur'ānu lā yasjudūn

    And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

22. 84:22 ▶

    بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ ﴿٢٢﴾

    bali lladhīna kafarū yukadhdhibūn

    But those who have disbelieved deny,

23. 84:23 ▶

    وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

    wallāhu 'aʿlamu bimā yūʿūn

    And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

24. 84:24 ▶

    فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ﴿٢٤﴾

    fabashshirhum biʿadhābin 'alīm

    So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

25. 84:25 ▶

    إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ ﴿٢٥﴾

    illa lladhīna 'āmanū waʿamilu ṣ-ṣāliḥāti lahum 'ajrun ghayru mamnūn

    Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

In the transliteration, “|”: the reciter stops; “·”: sakt, a brief cut without taking a breath.
