idha s-samā'u nfaṭarat
When the sky breaks apart
-
wa'idha l-kawākibu ntatharat
And when the stars fall, scattering,
-
wa'idha l-biḥāru fujjirat
And when the seas are erupted
-
wa'idha l-qubūru buʿthirat
And when the [contents of] graves are scattered [i.e., exposed],
-
ʿalimat nafsum mā qaddamat wa'akhkharat
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
-
yā'ayyuha l-insānu mā gharraka birabbika l-karīm
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
-
alladhī khalaqaka fasawwāka faʿadalak
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?
-
fī 'ayyi ṣūratim mā shā'a rakkabak
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.
-
kallā bal tukadhdhibūna bid-dīn
No! But you deny the Recompense.
-
wa'inna ʿalaykum laḥāfiẓīn
And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,
Angels who preserve the deeds of men in records.
-
kirāman kātibīn
Noble and recording;
-
yaʿlamūna mā tafʿalūn
They know whatever you do.
-
inna l-abrāra lafī naʿīm
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure,
-
wa'inna l-fujjāra lafī jaḥīm
And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
-
yaṣlawnahā yawma d-dīn
They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,
-
wamā hum ʿanhā bighā'ibīn
And never therefrom will they be absent.
-
wamā 'adrāka mā yawmu d-dīn
And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
-
thumma mā 'adrāka mā yawmu d-dīn
Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
-
yawma lā tamliku nafsul linafsin shay'ā | wal-amru yawma'idhil lillāh
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allāh.
