Surah Al-'Adiyat

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 100:1 ▶

   وَٱلْعَـٰدِيَـٰتِ ضَبْحًا ﴿١﴾

   wal-ʿādiyāti ḍabḥā

   By the racers, panting,

   i.e., the horses bearing riders as they race to attack the enemy.

2. 100:2 ▶

   فَٱلْمُورِيَـٰتِ قَدْحًا ﴿٢﴾

   fal-mūriyāti qadḥā

   And the producers of sparks [when] striking

   Their hoofs while galloping over rocky terrain.

3. 100:3 ▶

   فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًا ﴿٣﴾

   fal-mughīrāti ṣubḥā

   And the chargers at dawn,

   While the enemy is unaware.

4. 100:4 ▶

   فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا ﴿٤﴾

   fa'atharna bihī naqʿā

   Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust,

5. 100:5 ▶

   فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا ﴿٥﴾

   fawasaṭna bihī jamʿā

   Arriving thereby in the center collectively,

   i.e., penetrating into the enemy ranks during a surprise attack.

6. 100:6 ▶

   إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌ ﴿٦﴾

   inna l-insāna lirabbihī lakanūd

   Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful.

7. 100:7 ▶

   وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ ﴿٧﴾

   wa'innahū ʿalā dhālika lashahīd

   And indeed, he is to that a witness.

   Through his speech and his actions.

8. 100:8 ▶

   وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿٨﴾

   wa'innahū liḥubbi l-khayri lashadīd

   And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.

9. 100:9 ▶

   ۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿٩﴾

   afalā yaʿlamu 'idhā buʿthira mā fi l-qubūr

   But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered

10. 100:10 ▶

    وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ ﴿١٠﴾

    waḥuṣṣila mā fi ṣ-ṣudūr

    And that within the breasts is obtained,

    i.e., when all secrets are made known.

11. 100:11 ▶

    إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ ﴿١١﴾

    inna rabbahum bihim yawma'idhil lakhabīr

    Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Aware.

    Fully acquainted and familiar with everything about each one of them.

In the transliteration, “|”: the reciter stops; “·”: sakt, a brief cut without taking a breath.
