Surah Al-A'la

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 87:1 ▶

   سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى ﴿١﴾

   sabbiḥi sma rabbika l-aʿlā

   Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,

2. 87:2 ▶

   ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ﴿٢﴾

   alladhī khalaqa fasawwā

   Who created and proportioned

3. 87:3 ▶

   وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ﴿٣﴾

   walladhī qaddara fahadā

   And who destined and [then] guided

4. 87:4 ▶

   وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ ﴿٤﴾

   walladhī 'akhraja l-marʿā

   And who brings out the pasture

5. 87:5 ▶

   فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

   fajaʿalahū ghuthā'an 'aḥwā

   And [then] makes it black stubble.

6. 87:6 ▶

   سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ ﴿٦﴾

   sanuqri'uka falā tansā

   We will make you recite, [O Muḥammad], and you will not forget,

7. 87:7 ▶

   إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

   illā mā shā'a llāh | innahū yaʿlamu l-jahra wamā yakhfā

   Except what Allāh should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.

8. 87:8 ▶

   وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

   wanuyassiruka lil-yusrā

   And We will ease you toward ease.

   To the path of Allāh's religion, which is easy and natural, or toward Paradise, by giving opportunities for righteous deeds.

9. 87:9 ▶

   فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

   fadhakkir 'in nafaʿati dh-dhikrā

   So remind, if the reminder should benefit;

   i.e., wherever it will be heard and understood.

10. 87:10 ▶

    سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

    sayadhdhakkaru may yakhshā

    He who fears [Allāh] will be reminded.

11. 87:11 ▶

    وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى ﴿١١﴾

    wayatajannabuha l-ashqā

    But the wretched one will avoid it –

12. 87:12 ▶

    ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿١٢﴾

    alladhī yaṣla n-nāra l-kubrā

    [He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,

13. 87:13 ▶

    ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ ﴿١٣﴾

    thumma lā yamūtu fīhā walā yaḥyā

    Neither dying therein nor living.

14. 87:14 ▶

    قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

    qad 'aflaḥa man tazakkā

    He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself

15. 87:15 ▶

    وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ ﴿١٥﴾

    wadhakara sma rabbihī faṣallā

    And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.

16. 87:16 ▶

    بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ﴿١٦﴾

    bal tu'thirūna l-ḥayāta d-dunyā

    But you prefer the worldly life,

17. 87:17 ▶

    وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ ﴿١٧﴾

    wal-ākhiratu khayruw wa'abqā

    While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

18. 87:18 ▶

    إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿١٨﴾

    inna hādhā lafi ṣ-ṣuḥufi l-ūlā

    Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,

19. 87:19 ▶

    صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ ﴿١٩﴾

    ṣuḥufi 'ibrāhīma wamūsā

    The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.

In the transliteration, “|”: the reciter stops; “·”: sakt, a brief cut without taking a breath.
