Surah Quraysh

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 106:1 ▶

   لِإِيلَـٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ ﴿١﴾

   li'īlāfi quraysh

   For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -

   i.e., the honor and reputation Allāh had given them as guardians of the Holy Kaʿbah, which allowed them to travel without fear of being harmed.

2. 106:2 ▶

   إِۦلَـٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيْفِ ﴿٢﴾

   īlāfihim riḥlata sh-shitā'i waṣ-ṣayf

   Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -

   i.e., the trading caravans that traveled south in winter and north in summer.

3. 106:3 ▶

   فَلْيَعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْبَيْتِ ﴿٣﴾

   falyaʿbudū rabba hādha l-bayt

   Let them worship the Lord of this House,

   i.e., the Kaʿbah.

4. 106:4 ▶

   ٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعٍ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنْ خَوْفٍۭ ﴿٤﴾

   alladhī 'aṭʿamahum min jūʿiw wa'āmanahum min khawf

   Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.

In the transliteration, “|”: the reciter stops; “·”: sakt, a brief cut without taking a breath.
