As-Saffat

قَالَ

qāla

Will say

قَآئِلٌۭ

qāilun

a speaker

مِّنْهُمْ

min'hum

among them

إِنِّى

innī

Indeed, I

كَانَ

kāna

had

لِى

lī

for me

قَرِينٌۭ

qarīnun

a companion

يَقُولُ

yaqūlu

Who (would) say

أَءِنَّكَ

a-innaka

Are you indeed

لَمِنَ

lamina

surely of

ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ

l-muṣadiqīna

those who believe

أَءِذَا

a-idhā

Is (it) when

مِتْنَا

mit'nā

we have died

وَكُنَّا

wakunnā

and become

تُرَابًۭا

turāban

dust

وَعِظَـٰمًا

waʿiẓāman

and bones

أَءِنَّا

a-innā

will we

لَمَدِينُونَ

lamadīnūna

surely be brought to Judgment

قَالَ

qāla

He (will) say

هَلْ

hal

Will

أَنتُم

antum

you

مُّطَّلِعُونَ

muṭṭaliʿūna

be looking

فَٱطَّلَعَ

fa-iṭṭalaʿa

Then he (will) look

فَرَءَاهُ

faraāhu

and see him

فِى

fī

in

سَوَآءِ

sawāi

(the) midst

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

l-jaḥīmi

(of) the Hellfire

قَالَ

qāla

He (will) say

تَٱللَّهِ

tal-lahi

By Allah

إِن

in

verily

كِدتَّ

kidtta

you almost

لَتُرْدِينِ

latur'dīni

ruined me

وَلَوْلَا

walawlā

And if not

نِعْمَةُ

niʿ'matu

(for the) Grace

رَبِّى

rabbī

(of) my Lord

لَكُنتُ

lakuntu

certainly, I (would) have been

مِنَ

mina

among

ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ

l-muḥ'ḍarīna

those brought

أَفَمَا

afamā

Then are not

نَحْنُ

naḥnu

we

بِمَيِّتِينَ

bimayyitīna

(to) die

إِلَّا

illā

Except

مَوْتَتَنَا

mawtatanā

our death

ٱلْأُولَىٰ

l-ūlā

the first

وَمَا

wamā

and not

نَحْنُ

naḥnu

we

بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

bimuʿadhabīna

will be punished

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

هَـٰذَا

hādhā

this

لَهُوَ

lahuwa

surely

ٱلْفَوْزُ

l-fawzu

(is) the attainment

ٱلْعَظِيمُ

l-ʿaẓīmu

great

لِمِثْلِ

limith'li

For (the) like

هَـٰذَا

hādhā

(of) this

فَلْيَعْمَلِ

falyaʿmali

let work

ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ

l-ʿāmilūna

the workers

أَذَٰلِكَ

adhālika

Is that

خَيْرٌۭ

khayrun

better

نُّزُلًا

nuzulan

(as) hospitality

أَمْ

am

or

شَجَرَةُ

shajaratu

(the) tree

ٱلزَّقُّومِ

l-zaqūmi

(of) Zaqqum

إِنَّا

innā

Indeed, We

جَعَلْنَـٰهَا

jaʿalnāhā

[We] have made it

فِتْنَةًۭ

fit'natan

a trial

لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

lilẓẓālimīna

for the wrongdoers

إِنَّهَا

innahā

Indeed, it

شَجَرَةٌۭ

shajaratun

(is) a tree

تَخْرُجُ

takhruju

that grows

فِىٓ

fī

in

أَصْلِ

aṣli

(the) bottom

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

l-jaḥīmi

(of) the Hellfire

طَلْعُهَا

ṭalʿuhā

Its emerging fruit

كَأَنَّهُۥ

ka-annahu

(is) as if it

رُءُوسُ

ruūsu

(was) heads

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

l-shayāṭīni

(of) the devils

فَإِنَّهُمْ

fa-innahum

And indeed, they

لَـَٔاكِلُونَ

laākilūna

(will) surely eat

مِنْهَا

min'hā

from it

فَمَالِـُٔونَ

famāliūna

and fill

مِنْهَا

min'hā

with it

ٱلْبُطُونَ

l-buṭūna

(their) bellies

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

إِنَّ

inna

indeed

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

عَلَيْهَا

ʿalayhā

in it

لَشَوْبًۭا

lashawban

(is) a mixture

مِّنْ

min

of

حَمِيمٍۢ

ḥamīmin

boiling water

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

إِنَّ

inna

indeed

مَرْجِعَهُمْ

marjiʿahum

their return

لَإِلَى

la-ilā

(will) surely be to

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

l-jaḥīmi

the Hellfire

إِنَّهُمْ

innahum

Indeed, they

أَلْفَوْا۟

alfaw

found

ءَابَآءَهُمْ

ābāahum

their fathers

ضَآلِّينَ

ḍāllīna

astray

فَهُمْ

fahum

So they

عَلَىٰٓ

ʿalā

on

ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ

āthārihim

their footsteps

يُهْرَعُونَ

yuh'raʿūna

they hastened

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And verily

ضَلَّ

ḍalla

went astray

قَبْلَهُمْ

qablahum

before them

أَكْثَرُ

aktharu

most

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

l-awalīna

(of) the former (people)

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And verily

أَرْسَلْنَا

arsalnā

We sent

فِيهِم

fīhim

among them

مُّنذِرِينَ

mundhirīna

warners

فَٱنظُرْ

fa-unẓur

Then see

كَيْفَ

kayfa

how

كَانَ

kāna

was

عَـٰقِبَةُ

ʿāqibatu

(the) end

ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

l-mundharīna

(of) those who were warned

إِلَّا

illā

Except

عِبَادَ

ʿibāda

(the) slaves

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

l-mukh'laṣīna

the chosen ones

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And verily

نَادَىٰنَا

nādānā

called Us

نُوحٌۭ

nūḥun

Nuh

فَلَنِعْمَ

falaniʿ'ma

and Best

ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ

l-mujībūna

(are We as) Responders
