An-Najm

وَٱلنَّجْمِ

wal-najmi

By the star

إِذَا

idhā

when

هَوَىٰ

hawā

it goes down

مَا

mā

Not

ضَلَّ

ḍalla

has strayed

صَاحِبُكُمْ

ṣāḥibukum

your companion

وَمَا

wamā

and not

غَوَىٰ

ghawā

has he erred

وَمَا

wamā

And not

يَنطِقُ

yanṭiqu

he speaks

عَنِ

ʿani

from

ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ

l-hawā

the desire

إِنْ

in

Not

هُوَ

huwa

it

إِلَّا

illā

(is) except

وَحْىٌۭ

waḥyun

a revelation

يُوحَىٰ

yūḥā

revealed

عَلَّمَهُۥ

ʿallamahu

Has taught him

شَدِيدُ

shadīdu

the (one) mighty

ٱلْقُوَىٰ

l-quwā

(in) power

ذُو

dhū

Possessor of soundness

مِرَّةٍۢ

mirratin

Possessor of soundness

فَٱسْتَوَىٰ

fa-is'tawā

And he rose

وَهُوَ

wahuwa

While he

بِٱلْأُفُقِ

bil-ufuqi

(was) in the horizon

ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

l-aʿlā

the highest

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

دَنَا

danā

he approached

فَتَدَلَّىٰ

fatadallā

and came down

فَكَانَ

fakāna

And was

قَابَ

qāba

(at) a distance

قَوْسَيْنِ

qawsayni

(of) two bow-(lengths)

أَوْ

aw

or

أَدْنَىٰ

adnā

nearer

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ

fa-awḥā

So he revealed

إِلَىٰ

ilā

to

عَبْدِهِۦ

ʿabdihi

His slave

مَآ

mā

what

أَوْحَىٰ

awḥā

he revealed

مَا

mā

Not

كَذَبَ

kadhaba

lied

ٱلْفُؤَادُ

l-fuādu

the heart

مَا

mā

what

رَأَىٰٓ

raā

it saw

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ

afatumārūnahu

Then will you dispute with him

عَلَىٰ

ʿalā

about

مَا

mā

what

يَرَىٰ

yarā

he saw

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

رَءَاهُ

raāhu

he saw him

نَزْلَةً

nazlatan

(in) descent

أُخْرَىٰ

ukh'rā

another

عِندَ

ʿinda

Near

سِدْرَةِ

sid'rati

(the) Lote Tree

ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ

l-muntahā

(of) the utmost boundary

عِندَهَا

ʿindahā

Near it

جَنَّةُ

jannatu

(is the) Garden

ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ

l-mawā

(of) Abode

إِذْ

idh

When

يَغْشَى

yaghshā

covered

ٱلسِّدْرَةَ

l-sid'rata

the Lote Tree

مَا

mā

what

يَغْشَىٰ

yaghshā

covers

مَا

mā

Not

زَاغَ

zāgha

swerved

ٱلْبَصَرُ

l-baṣaru

the sight

وَمَا

wamā

and not

طَغَىٰ

ṭaghā

it transgressed

لَقَدْ

laqad

Certainly

رَأَىٰ

raā

he saw

مِنْ

min

of

ءَايَـٰتِ

āyāti

(the) Signs

رَبِّهِ

rabbihi

(of) his Lord

ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ

l-kub'rā

the Greatest

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ

afara-aytumu

So have you seen

ٱللَّـٰتَ

l-lāta

the Lat

وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ

wal-ʿuzā

and the Uzza

وَمَنَوٰةَ

wamanata

And Manat

ٱلثَّالِثَةَ

l-thālithata

the third

ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ

l-ukh'rā

the other

أَلَكُمُ

alakumu

Is for you

ٱلذَّكَرُ

l-dhakaru

the male

وَلَهُ

walahu

and for Him

ٱلْأُنثَىٰ

l-unthā

the female

تِلْكَ

til'ka

This

إِذًۭا

idhan

then

قِسْمَةٌۭ

qis'matun

(is) a division

ضِيزَىٰٓ

ḍīzā

unfair

إِنْ

in

Not

هِىَ

hiya

they

إِلَّآ

illā

(are) except

أَسْمَآءٌۭ

asmāon

names

سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ

sammaytumūhā

you have named them

أَنتُمْ

antum

you

وَءَابَآؤُكُم

waābāukum

and your forefathers

مَّآ

mā

not

أَنزَلَ

anzala

has Allah sent down

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

has Allah sent down

بِهَا

bihā

for it

مِن

min

any

سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ

sul'ṭānin

authority

إِن

in

Not

يَتَّبِعُونَ

yattabiʿūna

they follow

إِلَّا

illā

except

ٱلظَّنَّ

l-ẓana

assumption

وَمَا

wamā

and what

تَهْوَى

tahwā

desire

ٱلْأَنفُسُ ۖ

l-anfusu

the(ir) souls

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

جَآءَهُم

jāahum

has come to them

مِّن

min

from

رَّبِّهِمُ

rabbihimu

their Lord

ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ

l-hudā

the guidance

أَمْ

am

Or

لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ

lil'insāni

(is) for man

مَا

mā

what

تَمَنَّىٰ

tamannā

he wishes

فَلِلَّهِ

falillahi

But for Allah

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ

l-ākhiratu

(is) the last

وَٱلْأُولَىٰ

wal-ūlā

and the first
