26

يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَٲرِى سَوْءَٲتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا‌ۖ وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ذَٲلِكَ خَيْرٌ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ ﴿٢٦﴾

يَـٰبَنِىٓ

yābanī

O Children

ءَادَمَ

ādama

(of) Adam

قَدْ

qad

Verily

أَنزَلْنَا

anzalnā

We have sent down

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

to you

لِبَاسًۭا

libāsan

clothing

يُوَٰرِى

yuwārī

it covers

سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ

sawātikum

your shame

وَرِيشًۭا ۖ

warīshan

and (as) an adornment

وَلِبَاسُ

walibāsu

But the clothing

ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

l-taqwā

(of) [the] righteousness

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

that

خَيْرٌۭ ۚ

khayrun

(is) best

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

That

مِنْ

min

(is) from

ءَايَـٰتِ

āyāti

(the) Signs

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

لَعَلَّهُمْ

laʿallahum

so that they may

يَذَّكَّرُونَ

yadhakkarūna

remember

27

يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ كَمَآ أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ يَنزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْءَٲتِهِمَآ‌ۗ إِنَّهُۥ يَرَٮٰكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُۥ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ‌ۗ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٢٧﴾

يَـٰبَنِىٓ

O Children

ءَادَمَ

ādama

(of) Adam

لَا

(Let) not

يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ

yaftinannakumu

tempt you

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

l-shayṭānu

[the] Shaitaan

كَمَآ

kamā

as

أَخْرَجَ

akhraja

he drove out

أَبَوَيْكُم

abawaykum

your parents

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱلْجَنَّةِ

l-janati

Paradise

يَنزِعُ

yanziʿu

stripping

عَنْهُمَا

ʿanhumā

from both of them

لِبَاسَهُمَا

libāsahumā

their clothing

لِيُرِيَهُمَا

liyuriyahumā

to show both of them

سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآ ۗ

sawātihimā

their shame

إِنَّهُۥ

innahu

Indeed, he

يَرَىٰكُمْ

yarākum

sees you

هُوَ

huwa

he

وَقَبِيلُهُۥ

waqabīluhu

and his tribe

مِنْ

min

from

حَيْثُ

ḥaythu

where

لَا

not

تَرَوْنَهُمْ ۗ

tarawnahum

you see them

إِنَّا

innā

Indeed

جَعَلْنَا

jaʿalnā

We have made

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ

l-shayāṭīna

the devils

أَوْلِيَآءَ

awliyāa

friends

لِلَّذِينَ

lilladhīna

of those who

لَا

(do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

yu'minūna

believe

28

وَإِذَا فَعَلُواْ فَـٰحِشَةً قَالُواْ وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَآ ءَابَآءَنَا وَٱللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَا‌ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ‌ۖ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٢٨﴾

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

فَعَلُوا۟

faʿalū

they do

فَـٰحِشَةًۭ

fāḥishatan

immorality

قَالُوا۟

qālū

they say

وَجَدْنَا

wajadnā

We found

عَلَيْهَآ

ʿalayhā

on it

ءَابَآءَنَا

ābāanā

our forefathers

وَٱللَّهُ

wal-lahu

and Allah

أَمَرَنَا

amaranā

(has) ordered us

بِهَا ۗ

bihā

of it

قُلْ

qul

Say

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

لَا

(does) not

يَأْمُرُ

yamuru

order

بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ ۖ

bil-faḥshāi

immorality

أَتَقُولُونَ

ataqūlūna

Do you say

عَلَى

ʿalā

about

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

مَا

what

لَا

not

تَعْلَمُونَ

taʿlamūna

you know

29

قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّى بِٱلْقِسْطِ‌ۖ وَأَقِيمُواْ وُجُوهَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ‌ۚ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ ﴿٢٩﴾

Say

أَمَرَ

amara

(Has been) ordered

رَبِّى

rabbī

(by) my Lord

بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ

bil-qis'ṭi

justice

وَأَقِيمُوا۟

wa-aqīmū

and set

وُجُوهَكُمْ

wujūhakum

your faces

عِندَ

ʿinda

at

كُلِّ

kulli

every

مَسْجِدٍۢ

masjidin

masjid

وَٱدْعُوهُ

wa-id'ʿūhu

and invoke Him

مُخْلِصِينَ

mukh'liṣīna

(being) sincere

لَهُ

lahu

to Him

ٱلدِّينَ ۚ

l-dīna

(in) the religion

كَمَا

kamā

As

بَدَأَكُمْ

bada-akum

He originated you

تَعُودُونَ

taʿūdūna

(so) will you return

30

فَرِيقًا هَدَىٰ وَفَرِيقًا حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ‌ۗ إِنَّهُمُ ٱتَّخَذُواْ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ ﴿٣٠﴾

فَرِيقًا

farīqan

A group

هَدَىٰ

hadā

He guided

وَفَرِيقًا

wafarīqan

and a group

حَقَّ

ḥaqqa

deserved

عَلَيْهِمُ

ʿalayhimu

[on] they

ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۗ

l-ḍalālatu

the astraying

إِنَّهُمُ

innahumu

Indeed, they

ٱتَّخَذُوا۟

ittakhadhū

take

ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ

l-shayāṭīna

the devils

أَوْلِيَآءَ

awliyāa

(as) allies

مِن

min

from

دُونِ

dūni

besides

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

وَيَحْسَبُونَ

wayaḥsabūna

while they think

أَنَّهُم

annahum

that they

مُّهْتَدُونَ

muh'tadūna

(are the) guided-ones

31

۞ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خُذُواْ زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَكُلُواْ وَٱشْرَبُواْ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوٓاْ‌ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ ﴿٣١﴾

O Children

ءَادَمَ

(of) Adam

خُذُوا۟

Take

زِينَتَكُمْ

zīnatakum

your adornment

عِندَ

ʿinda

at

كُلِّ

kulli

every

مَسْجِدٍۢ

masjidin

masjid

وَكُلُوا۟

wakulū

and eat

وَٱشْرَبُوا۟

wa-ish'rabū

and drink

وَلَا

walā

but (do) not

تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ

tus'rifū

be extravagant

إِنَّهُۥ

innahu

Indeed, He

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

yuḥibbu

love

ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

l-mus'rifīna

the extravagant ones

32

قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلرِّزْقِ‌ۚ قُلْ هِىَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٲةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا خَالِصَةً يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ‌ۗ كَذَٲلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْأَيَـٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

Say

مَنْ

man

Who

حَرَّمَ

ḥarrama

has forbidden

زِينَةَ

zīnata

(the) adornment

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(from) Allah

ٱلَّتِىٓ

allatī

which

أَخْرَجَ

akhraja

He has brought forth

لِعِبَادِهِۦ

liʿibādihi

for His slaves

وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ

wal-ṭayibāti

and the pure things

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ

l-riz'qi

sustenance

قُلْ

qul

Say

هِىَ

hiya

They

لِلَّذِينَ

lilladhīna

(are) for those who

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

believe

فِى

during

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

l-ḥayati

the life

ٱلدُّنْيَا

l-dun'yā

(of) the world

خَالِصَةًۭ

khāliṣatan

exclusively (for them)

يَوْمَ

yawma

(on the) Day

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ

l-qiyāmati

(of) Resurrection

كَذَٰلِكَ

kadhālika

Thus

نُفَصِّلُ

nufaṣṣilu

We explain

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

l-āyāti

the Signs

لِقَوْمٍۢ

liqawmin

for (the) people

يَعْلَمُونَ

yaʿlamūna

who know

33

قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ ٱلْفَوَٲحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلْإِثْمَ وَٱلْبَغْىَ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَأَن تُشْرِكُواْ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا وَأَن تَقُولُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٣﴾

Say

إِنَّمَا

innamā

Only

حَرَّمَ

ḥarrama

(had) forbidden

رَبِّىَ

rabbiya

my Lord

ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ

l-fawāḥisha

the shameful deeds

مَا

what

ظَهَرَ

ẓahara

(is) apparent

مِنْهَا

min'hā

of it

وَمَا

wamā

and what

بَطَنَ

baṭana

is concealed

وَٱلْإِثْمَ

wal-ith'ma

and the sin

وَٱلْبَغْىَ

wal-baghya

and the oppression

بِغَيْرِ

bighayri

without

ٱلْحَقِّ

l-ḥaqi

[the] right

وَأَن

wa-an

and that

تُشْرِكُوا۟

tush'rikū

you associate (others)

بِٱللَّهِ

bil-lahi

with Allah

مَا

what

لَمْ

lam

not

يُنَزِّلْ

yunazzil

He (has) sent down

بِهِۦ

bihi

of it

سُلْطَـٰنًۭا

sul'ṭānan

any authority

وَأَن

wa-an

and that

تَقُولُوا۟

taqūlū

you say

عَلَى

ʿalā

about

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

مَا

what

لَا

not

تَعْلَمُونَ

taʿlamūna

you know

34

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ‌ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً‌ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

وَلِكُلِّ

walikulli

And for every

أُمَّةٍ

ummatin

nation

أَجَلٌۭ ۖ

ajalun

(is a fixed) term

فَإِذَا

fa-idhā

So when

جَآءَ

jāa

comes

أَجَلُهُمْ

ajaluhum

their term

لَا

(they can) not

يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

yastakhirūna

seek to delay

سَاعَةًۭ ۖ

sāʿatan

an hour

وَلَا

walā

and not

يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

yastaqdimūna

seek to advance (it)

35

يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ إِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِى‌ۙ فَمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

يَـٰبَنِىٓ

O Children

ءَادَمَ

ādama

(of) Adam

إِمَّا

immā

If

يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ

yatiyannakum

come to you

رُسُلٌۭ

rusulun

Messengers

مِّنكُمْ

minkum

from you

يَقُصُّونَ

yaquṣṣūna

relating

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

to you

ءَايَـٰتِى ۙ

āyātī

My Verses

فَمَنِ

famani

then whoever

ٱتَّقَىٰ

ittaqā

fears Allah

وَأَصْلَحَ

wa-aṣlaḥa

and reforms

فَلَا

falā

then no

خَوْفٌ

khawfun

fear

عَلَيْهِمْ

ʿalayhim

on them

وَلَا

walā

and not

هُمْ

hum

they

يَحْزَنُونَ

yaḥzanūna

will grieve

36

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرُواْ عَنْهَآ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ‌ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ﴿٣٦﴾

Word-by-word

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wa-alladhīna

But those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

deny

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

biāyātinā

Our Verses

وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

wa-is'takbarū

and (are) arrogant

عَنْهَآ

ʿanhā

towards them

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

ulāika

those

أَصْحَـٰبُ

aṣḥābu

(are the) companions

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

l-nāri

(of) the Fire

هُمْ

hum

they

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

خَـٰلِدُونَ

khālidūna

will abide forever

37

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِهِۦٓ‌ۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ يَنَالُهُمْ نَصِيبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ‌ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ قَالُوٓاْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ قَالُواْ ضَلُّواْ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ كَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

فَمَنْ

faman

Then who

أَظْلَمُ

aẓlamu

(is) more unjust

مِمَّنِ

mimmani

than (one) who

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

if'tarā

invented

عَلَى

ʿalā

against

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

كَذِبًا

kadhiban

a lie

أَوْ

aw

or

كَذَّبَ

kadhaba

denies

بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ

biāyātihi

His Verses

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

ulāika

Those

يَنَالُهُمْ

yanāluhum

will reach them

نَصِيبُهُم

naṣībuhum

their portion

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۖ

l-kitābi

the Book

حَتَّىٰٓ

ḥattā

until

إِذَا

idhā

when

جَآءَتْهُمْ

jāathum

comes to them

رُسُلُنَا

rusulunā

Our messengers (Angels)

يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ

yatawaffawnahum

(to) take them in death

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

they say

أَيْنَ

ayna

Where are

مَا

those (whom)

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you used to

تَدْعُونَ

tadʿūna

invoke

مِن

min

from

دُونِ

dūni

besides

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

l-lahi

Allah

قَالُوا۟

qālū

They say

ضَلُّوا۟

ḍallū

They strayed

عَنَّا

ʿannā

from us

وَشَهِدُوا۟

washahidū

and they (will) testify

عَلَىٰٓ

ʿalā

against

أَنفُسِهِمْ

anfusihim

themselves

أَنَّهُمْ

annahum

that they

كَانُوا۟

kānū

were

كَـٰفِرِينَ

kāfirīna

disbelievers

38

قَالَ ٱدْخُلُواْ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ فِى ٱلنَّارِ‌ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتْ أُمَّةٌ لَّعَنَتْ أُخْتَهَا‌ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ٱدَّارَكُواْ فِيهَا جَمِيعًا قَالَتْ أُخْرَٮٰهُمْ لِأُولَـٰهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَضَلُّونَا فَـَٔـاتِهِمْ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ‌ۖ قَالَ لِكُلٍّ ضِعْفٌ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٨﴾

He (will) say

ٱدْخُلُوا۟

ud'khulū

Enter

فِىٓ

among

أُمَمٍۢ

umamin

(the) nations

قَدْ

qad

(who)

خَلَتْ

khalat

passed away

مِن

min

from

قَبْلِكُم

qablikum

before you

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلْجِنِّ

l-jini

the jinn

وَٱلْإِنسِ

wal-insi

and the men

فِى

in

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

l-nāri

the Fire

كُلَّمَا

kullamā

Every time

دَخَلَتْ

dakhalat

entered

أُمَّةٌۭ

ummatun

a nation

لَّعَنَتْ

laʿanat

it cursed

أُخْتَهَا ۖ

ukh'tahā

its sister (nation)

حَتَّىٰٓ

ḥattā

until

إِذَا

idhā

when

ٱدَّارَكُوا۟

iddārakū

they had overtaken one another

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

جَمِيعًۭا

jamīʿan

all

قَالَتْ

qālat

(will) say

أُخْرَىٰهُمْ

ukh'rāhum

(the) last of them

لِأُولَىٰهُمْ

liūlāhum

about the first of them

رَبَّنَا

rabbanā

Our Lord

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

hāulāi

these

أَضَلُّونَا

aḍallūnā

misled us

فَـَٔاتِهِمْ

faātihim

so give them

عَذَابًۭا

ʿadhāban

punishment

ضِعْفًۭا

ḍiʿ'fan

double

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

l-nāri

the Fire

قَالَ

qāla

He (will) say

لِكُلٍّۢ

likullin

For each

ضِعْفٌۭ

ḍiʿ'fun

(is) a double

وَلَـٰكِن

walākin

[and] but

لَّا

not

تَعْلَمُونَ

taʿlamūna

you know

39

وَقَالَتْ أُولَـٰهُمْ لِأُخْرَٮٰهُمْ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِن فَضْلٍ فَذُوقُواْ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ ﴿٣٩﴾

وَقَالَتْ

waqālat

And (will) say

أُولَىٰهُمْ

ūlāhum

(the) first of them

لِأُخْرَىٰهُمْ

li-ukh'rāhum

to (the) last of them

فَمَا

famā

Then not

كَانَ

kāna

is

لَكُمْ

lakum

for you

عَلَيْنَا

ʿalaynā

upon us

مِن

min

any

فَضْلٍۢ

faḍlin

superiority

فَذُوقُوا۟

fadhūqū

so taste

ٱلْعَذَابَ

l-ʿadhāba

the punishment

بِمَا

bimā

for what

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you used to

تَكْسِبُونَ

taksibūna

earn

40

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرُواْ عَنْهَا لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمْ أَبْوَٲبُ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَا يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ حَتَّىٰ يَلِجَ ٱلْجَمَلُ فِى سَمِّ ٱلْخِيَاطِ‌ۚ وَكَذَٲلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ﴿٤٠﴾

Indeed

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

biāyātinā

Our Verses

وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

wa-is'takbarū

and (were) arrogant

عَنْهَا

ʿanhā

towards them

لَا

(will) not

تُفَتَّحُ

tufattaḥu

be opened

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

أَبْوَٰبُ

abwābu

(the) doors

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

l-samāi

(of) the heaven

وَلَا

walā

and not

يَدْخُلُونَ

yadkhulūna

they will enter

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

l-janata

Paradise

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattā

until

يَلِجَ

yalija

passes

ٱلْجَمَلُ

l-jamalu

the camel

فِى

through

سَمِّ

sammi

(the) eye

ٱلْخِيَاطِ ۚ

l-khiyāṭi

(of) the needle

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

wakadhālika

And thus

نَجْزِى

najzī

We recompense

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

l-muj'rimīna

the criminals

41

لَهُم مِّن جَهَنَّمَ مِهَادٌ وَمِن فَوْقِهِمْ غَوَاشٍ‌ۚ وَكَذَٲلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ﴿٤١﴾

Word-by-word

لَهُم

lahum

For them

مِّن

min

of

جَهَنَّمَ

jahannama

(the) Hell

مِهَادٌۭ

mihādun

(is) a bed

وَمِن

wamin

and from

فَوْقِهِمْ

fawqihim

over them

غَوَاشٍۢ ۚ

ghawāshin

coverings

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

wakadhālika

And thus

نَجْزِى

najzī

We recompense

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

l-ẓālimīna

the wrongdoers

42

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَآ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ‌ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ﴿٤٢﴾

Word-by-word

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wa-alladhīna

But those who

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

believe

وَعَمِلُوا۟

waʿamilū

and do

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

l-ṣāliḥāti

[the] righteous deeds

لَا

not

نُكَلِّفُ

nukallifu

We burden

نَفْسًا

nafsan

any soul

إِلَّا

illā

except

وُسْعَهَآ

wus'ʿahā

(to) its capacity

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

ulāika

Those

أَصْحَـٰبُ

aṣḥābu

(are the) companions

ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ

l-janati

(of) Paradise

هُمْ

hum

they

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

خَـٰلِدُونَ

khālidūna

(will) abide forever

43

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهِمُ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ‌ۖ وَقَالُواْ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى هَدَٮٰنَا لِهَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِىَ لَوْلَآ أَنْ هَدَٮٰنَا ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ لَقَدْ جَآءَتْ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ‌ۖ وَنُودُوٓاْ أَن تِلْكُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾

Word-by-word

وَنَزَعْنَا

wanazaʿnā

And We will remove

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

صُدُورِهِم

ṣudūrihim

their breasts

مِّنْ

min

of

غِلٍّۢ

ghillin

malice

تَجْرِى

tajrī

Flows

مِن

min

from

تَحْتِهِمُ

taḥtihimu

underneath them

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ

l-anhāru

the rivers

وَقَالُوا۟

waqālū

And they will say

ٱلْحَمْدُ

l-ḥamdu

All the praise

لِلَّهِ

lillahi

(is) for Allah

ٱلَّذِى

alladhī

the One Who

هَدَىٰنَا

hadānā

guided us

لِهَـٰذَا

lihādhā

to this

وَمَا

wamā

and not

كُنَّا

kunnā

we were

لِنَهْتَدِىَ

linahtadiya

to receive guidance

لَوْلَآ

lawlā

if not

أَنْ

an

[that]

هَدَىٰنَا

hadānā

(had) guided us

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

l-lahu

Allah

لَقَدْ

laqad

Certainly

جَآءَتْ

jāat

came

رُسُلُ

rusulu

Messengers

رَبِّنَا

rabbinā

(of) our Lord

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

bil-ḥaqi

with the truth

وَنُودُوٓا۟

wanūdū

And they will be addressed

أَن

an

[that]

تِلْكُمُ

til'kumu

This

ٱلْجَنَّةُ

l-janatu

(is) Paradise

أُورِثْتُمُوهَا

ūrith'tumūhā

you have been made to inherit it

بِمَا

bimā

for what

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you used to

تَعْمَلُونَ

taʿmalūna

do

44

وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ أَن قَدْ وَجَدْنَا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا حَقًّا فَهَلْ وَجَدتُّم مَّا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا‌ۖ قَالُواْ نَعَمْ‌ۚ فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُۢ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن لَّعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ﴿٤٤﴾

وَنَادَىٰٓ

wanādā

And will call out

أَصْحَـٰبُ

aṣḥābu

(the) companions

ٱلْجَنَّةِ

l-janati

(of) Paradise

أَصْحَـٰبَ

aṣḥāba

(to the) companions

ٱلنَّارِ

l-nāri

(of) the Fire

أَن

an

that

قَدْ

qad

Indeed

وَجَدْنَا

wajadnā

we found

مَا

what

وَعَدَنَا

waʿadanā

(had) promised us

رَبُّنَا

rabbunā

our Lord

حَقًّۭا

ḥaqqan

true

فَهَلْ

fahal

So have

وَجَدتُّم

wajadttum

you found

مَّا

what

وَعَدَ

waʿada

(was) promised

رَبُّكُمْ

rabbukum

(by) your Lord

حَقًّۭا ۖ

ḥaqqan

(to be) true

قَالُوا۟

qālū

They will say

نَعَمْ ۚ

naʿam

Yes

فَأَذَّنَ

fa-adhana

Then will announce

مُؤَذِّنٌۢ

mu-adhinun

an announcer

بَيْنَهُمْ

baynahum

among them

أَن

an

[that]

لَّعْنَةُ

laʿnatu

(The) curse

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

عَلَى

ʿalā

(is) on

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

l-ẓālimīna

the wrongdoers

45

ٱلَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَهُم بِٱلْأَخِرَةِ كَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿٤٥﴾

Word-by-word

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

Those who

يَصُدُّونَ

yaṣuddūna

hinder

عَن

ʿan

from

سَبِيلِ

sabīli

(the) way

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

وَيَبْغُونَهَا

wayabghūnahā

and seek in it

عِوَجًۭا

ʿiwajan

crookedness

وَهُم

wahum

while they (are)

بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

bil-ākhirati

concerning the Hereafter

كَـٰفِرُونَ

kāfirūna

disbelievers

46

وَبَيْنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ‌ۚ وَعَلَى ٱلْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالٌ يَعْرِفُونَ كُلاَّۢ بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ‌ۚ وَنَادَوْاْ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ أَن سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ‌ۚ لَمْ يَدْخُلُوهَا وَهُمْ يَطْمَعُونَ ﴿٤٦﴾

وَبَيْنَهُمَا

wabaynahumā

And between them

حِجَابٌۭ ۚ

ḥijābun

(will be) a partition

وَعَلَى

waʿalā

and on

ٱلْأَعْرَافِ

l-aʿrāfi

the heights

رِجَالٌۭ

rijālun

(will be) men

يَعْرِفُونَ

yaʿrifūna

recognizing

كُلًّۢا

kullan

all

بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ ۚ

bisīmāhum

by their marks

وَنَادَوْا۟

wanādaw

And they will call out

أَصْحَـٰبَ

aṣḥāba

(to the) companions

ٱلْجَنَّةِ

l-janati

(of) Paradise

أَن

an

that

سَلَـٰمٌ

salāmun

Peace

عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ

ʿalaykum

(be) upon you

لَمْ

lam

Not

يَدْخُلُوهَا

yadkhulūhā

they have entered it

وَهُمْ

wahum

but they

يَطْمَعُونَ

yaṭmaʿūna

hope

47

۞ وَإِذَا صُرِفَتْ أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تِلْقَآءَ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ قَالُواْ رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ﴿٤٧﴾

Word-by-word

۞ وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

صُرِفَتْ

ṣurifat

are turned

أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ

abṣāruhum

their eyes

تِلْقَآءَ

til'qāa

towards

أَصْحَـٰبِ

aṣḥābi

(the) companions

ٱلنَّارِ

l-nāri

(of) the Fire

قَالُوا۟

qālū

they (will) say

رَبَّنَا

rabbanā

Our Lord

لَا

(Do) not

تَجْعَلْنَا

tajʿalnā

place us

مَعَ

maʿa

with

ٱلْقَوْمِ

l-qawmi

the people

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

l-ẓālimīna

the wrongdoers

48

وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالاً يَعْرِفُونَهُم بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ قَالُواْ مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنكُمْ جَمْعُكُمْ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

وَنَادَىٰٓ

wanādā

And (will) call out

أَصْحَـٰبُ

aṣḥābu

(the) companions

ٱلْأَعْرَافِ

l-aʿrāfi

(of) the heights

رِجَالًۭا

rijālan

(to) men

يَعْرِفُونَهُم

yaʿrifūnahum

whom they recognize

بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ

bisīmāhum

by their marks

قَالُوا۟

qālū

saying

مَآ

Not

أَغْنَىٰ

aghnā

(has) availed

عَنكُمْ

ʿankum

[to] you

جَمْعُكُمْ

jamʿukum

your gathering

وَمَا

wamā

and what

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you were

تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

tastakbirūna

arrogant (about)

49

أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ أَقْسَمْتُمْ لَا يَنَالُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ‌ۚ ٱدْخُلُواْ ٱلْجَنَّةَ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَآ أَنتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ ﴿٤٩﴾

أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

ahāulāi

Are these

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

the ones whom

أَقْسَمْتُمْ

aqsamtum

you had sworn

لَا

(that) not

يَنَالُهُمُ

yanāluhumu

(will) grant them

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

بِرَحْمَةٍ ۚ

biraḥmatin

Mercy

ٱدْخُلُوا۟

ud'khulū

Enter

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

l-janata

Paradise

لَا

(There will be) no

خَوْفٌ

khawfun

fear

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

upon you

وَلَآ

walā

and not

أَنتُمْ

antum

you

تَحْزَنُونَ

taḥzanūna

will grieve

50

وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ أَنْ أَفِيضُواْ عَلَيْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ أَوْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿٥٠﴾

And (will) call out

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(the) companions

ٱلنَّارِ

l-nāri

(of) the Fire

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

حَرَّمَهُمَا

ḥarramahumā

has forbidden both

عَلَى

ʿalā

to

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

l-kāfirīna

the disbelievers
