Surah Al-'Ankabut

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 29:1 ▶

   الٓمٓ ﴿١﴾

   alif-lām-mīm

   Alif, Lām, Meem.

   See footnote to 2:1.

2. 29:2 ▶

   أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ ﴿٢﴾

   aḥasiba n-nāsu 'ay yutrakū 'ay yaqūlū 'āmannā wahum lā yuftanūn

   Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?

3. 29:3 ▶

   وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ ﴿٣﴾

   walaqad fatanna lladhīna min qablihim | falayaʿlamanna llāhu lladhīna ṣadaqū walayaʿlamanna l-kādhibīn

   But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allāh will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.

4. 29:4 ▶

   أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن يَسْبِقُونَا ۚ سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ ﴿٤﴾

   am ḥasiba lladhīna yaʿmalūna s-sayyi'āti 'ay yasbiqūnā | sā'a mā yaḥkumūn

   Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun [i.e., escape] Us? Evil is what they judge.

5. 29:5 ▶

   مَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ لِقَآءَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ لَـَٔاتٍ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ﴿٥﴾

   man kāna yarjū liqā'a llāhi fa'inna 'ajala llāhi la'āt | wahuwa s-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

   Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allāh - indeed, the term [decreed by] Allāh is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

6. 29:6 ▶

   وَمَن جَـٰهَدَ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَـٰهِدُ لِنَفْسِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿٦﴾

   waman jāhada fa'innamā yujāhidu linafsih | inna llāha laghaniyyun ʿani l-ʿālamīn

   And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allāh is Free from need of the worlds.

7. 29:7 ▶

   وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَحْسَنَ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٧﴾

   walladhīna 'āmanū waʿamilu ṣ-ṣāliḥāti lanukaffiranna ʿanhum sayyi'ātihim walanajziyannahum 'aḥsana lladhī kānū yaʿmalūn

   And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do.

8. 29:8 ▶

   وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ حُسْنًا ۖ وَإِن جَـٰهَدَاكَ لِتُشْرِكَ بِى مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَآ ۚ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٨﴾

   wawaṣṣayna l-insāna biwālidayhi ḥusnā | wa'in jāhadāka litushrika bī mā laysa laka bihī ʿilmun falā tuṭiʿhumā | ilayya marjiʿukum fa'unabbi'ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

   And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

   i.e., no knowledge of its divinity. There can be no knowledge about something which is non-existent or untrue.

9. 29:9 ▶

   وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ﴿٩﴾

   walladhīna 'āmanū waʿamilu ṣ-ṣāliḥāti lanudkhilannahum fi ṣ-ṣāliḥīn

   And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely admit them among the righteous [into Paradise].

10. 29:10 ▶

    وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ فَإِذَآ أُوذِىَ فِى ٱللَّهِ جَعَلَ فِتْنَةَ ٱلنَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَئِن جَآءَ نَصْرٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمْ ۚ أَوَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِمَا فِى صُدُورِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿١٠﴾

    wamina n-nāsi may yaqūlu 'āmannā billāhi fa'idhā 'ūdhiya fi llāhi jaʿala fitnata n-nāsi kaʿadhābi llāhi wala'in jā'a naṣrum mir rabbika layaqūlunna 'innā kunnā maʿakum | awalaysa llāhu bi'aʿlama bimā fī ṣudūri l-ʿālamīn

    And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allāh," but when one [of them] is harmed for [the cause of] Allāh, he considers the trial [i.e., harm] of the people as [if it were] the punishment of Allāh. But if victory comes from your Lord, they say, "Indeed, We were with you." Is not Allāh most knowing of what is within the breasts of the worlds [i.e., all creatures]?

11. 29:11 ▶

    وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ ﴿١١﴾

    walayaʿlamanna llāhu lladhīna 'āmanū walayaʿlamanna l-munāfiqīn

    And Allāh will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites.

12. 29:12 ▶

    وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ سَبِيلَنَا وَلْنَحْمِلْ خَطَـٰيَـٰكُمْ وَمَا هُم بِحَـٰمِلِينَ مِنْ خَطَـٰيَـٰهُم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ﴿١٢﴾

    waqāla lladhīna kafarū lilladhīna 'āmanu ttabiʿū sabīlanā walnaḥmil khaṭāyākum wamā hum biḥāmilīna min khaṭāyāhum min shay' | innahum lakādhibūn

    And those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Follow our way, and we will carry your sins." But they will not carry anything of their sins. Indeed, they are liars.

    The phrase may also read: "and let us carry your sins," i.e., the responsibility for your sins.

13. 29:13 ▶

    وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ أَثْقَالَهُمْ وَأَثْقَالًا مَّعَ أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖ وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ ﴿١٣﴾

    walayaḥmilunna 'athqālahum wa'athqālam maʿa 'athqālihim | walayus'alunna yawma l-qiyāmati ʿammā kānū yaftarūn

    But they will surely carry their [own] burdens and [other] burdens along with their burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent.

    Besides their own sins, they will carry those of the people they misled, although it will not lessen the burden of the latter.

14. 29:14 ▶

    وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلطُّوفَانُ وَهُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ ﴿١٤﴾

    walaqad 'arsalnā nūḥan 'ilā qawmihī falabitha fīhim 'alfa sanatin 'illā khamsīna ʿāman fa'akhadhahumu ṭ-ṭūfānu wahum ẓālimūn

    And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers.

15. 29:15 ▶

    فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ وَأَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلسَّفِينَةِ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿١٥﴾

    fa'anjaynāhu wa'aṣḥāba s-safīnati wajaʿalnāhā 'āyatal lil-ʿālamīn

    But We saved him and the companions of the ship, and We made it a sign for the worlds.

    i.e., the ship, the event or the story.

16. 29:16 ▶

    وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۖ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿١٦﴾

    wa'ibrāhīma 'idh qāla liqawmihi ʿbudu llāha wattaqūh | dhālikum khayrul lakum 'in kuntum taʿlamūn

    And [We sent] Abraham, when he said to his people, "Worship Allāh and fear Him. That is best for you, if you should know.

17. 29:17 ▶

    إِنَّمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَـٰنًا وَتَخْلُقُونَ إِفْكًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لَكُمْ رِزْقًا فَٱبْتَغُوا۟ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرِّزْقَ وَٱعْبُدُوهُ وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لَهُۥٓ ۖ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ﴿١٧﴾

    innamā taʿbudūna min dūni llāhi 'awthānaw watakhluqūna 'ifkā | inna lladhīna taʿbudūna min dūni llāhi lā yamlikūna lakum rizqan fabtaghū ʿinda llāhi r-rizqa waʿbudūhu washkurū lah | ilayhi turjaʿūn

    You only worship, besides Allāh, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides Allāh do not possess for you [the power of] provision. So seek from Allāh provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."

18. 29:18 ▶

    وَإِن تُكَذِّبُوا۟ فَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أُمَمٌ مِّن قَبْلِكُمْ ۖ وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ﴿١٨﴾

    wa'in tukadhdhibū faqad kadhdhaba 'umamum min qablikum | wamā ʿala r-rasūli 'illa l-balāghu l-mubīn

    And if you [people] deny [the message] - already nations before you have denied. And there is not upon the Messenger except [the duty of] clear notification.

    Commentators have differed over this verse - whether it is a continuation of the words of Prophet Abraham or words of comfort given by Allāh to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ), which according to context seems more likely.

19. 29:19 ▶

    أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ يُبْدِئُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ ﴿١٩﴾

    awalam yaraw kayfa yubdi'u llāhu l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduh | inna dhālika ʿala llāhi yasīr

    Have they not considered how Allāh begins creation and then repeats it? Indeed that, for Allāh, is easy.

20. 29:20 ▶

    قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ بَدَأَ ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ يُنشِئُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ﴿٢٠﴾

    qul sīrū fi l-arḍi fanẓurū kayfa bada'a l-khalq | thumma llāhu yunshi'u n-nash'ata l-ākhirah | inna llāha ʿalā kulli shay'in qadīr

    Say, [O Muḥammad], "Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allāh will produce the final creation [i.e., development]. Indeed Allāh, over all things, is competent."

21. 29:21 ▶

    يُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْحَمُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ تُقْلَبُونَ ﴿٢١﴾

    yuʿadhdhibu may yashā'u wayarḥamu may yashā' | wa'ilayhi tuqlabūn

    He punishes whom He wills and has mercy upon whom He wills, and to Him you will be returned.

22. 29:22 ▶

    وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ ﴿٢٢﴾

    wamā 'antum bimuʿjizīna fi l-arḍi walā fi s-samā' | wamā lakum min dūni llāhi miw waliyyiw walā naṣīr

    And you will not cause failure [to Allāh] upon the earth or in the heaven. And you have not other than Allāh any protector or any helper.

23. 29:23 ▶

    وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَئِسُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَتِى وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿٢٣﴾

    walladhīna kafarū bi'āyāti llāhi waliqā'ihī 'ulā'ika ya'isū mir raḥmatī wa'ulā'ika lahum ʿadhābun 'alīm

    And the ones who disbelieve in the signs of Allāh and the meeting with Him - those have despaired of My mercy, and they will have a painful punishment.

24. 29:24 ▶

    فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱقْتُلُوهُ أَوْ حَرِّقُوهُ فَأَنجَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٢٤﴾

    famā kāna jawāba qawmihī 'illā 'an qālu qtulūhu 'aw ḥarriqūhu fa'anjāhu llāhu mina n-nār | inna fī dhālika la'āyātil liqawmiy yu'minūn

    And the answer of his [i.e., Abraham's] people was not but that they said, "Kill him or burn him," but Allāh saved him from the fire. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.

25. 29:25 ▶

    وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَـٰنًا مَّوَدَّةَ بَيْنِكُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُ بَعْضُكُم بِبَعْضٍ وَيَلْعَنُ بَعْضُكُم بَعْضًا وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ ﴿٢٥﴾

    waqāla 'innama ttakhadhtum min dūni llāhi 'awthānam mawaddata baynikum fi l-ḥayāti d-dunyā | thumma yawma l-qiyāmati yakfuru baʿḍukum bibaʿḍiw wayalʿanu baʿḍukum baʿḍaw wama'wākumu n-nāru wamā lakum min nāṣirīn

    And [Abraham] said, "You have only taken, other than Allāh, idols as [a bond of] affection among you in worldly life. Then on the Day of Resurrection you will deny one another and curse one another, and your refuge will be the Fire, and you will not have any helpers."

26. 29:26 ▶

    ۞ فَـَٔامَنَ لَهُۥ لُوطٌ ۘ وَقَالَ إِنِّى مُهَاجِرٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ﴿٢٦﴾

    fa'āmana lahū lūṭ | waqāla 'innī muhājirun 'ilā rabbī 'innahū huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

    And Lot believed him. [Abraham] said, "Indeed, I will emigrate to [the service of] my Lord. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

27. 29:27 ▶

    وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ أَجْرَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ﴿٢٧﴾

    wawahabnā lahū 'isḥāqa wayaʿqūba wajaʿalnā fī dhurriyyatihi n-nubuwwata wal-kitāba wa'ātaynāhu 'ajrahū fi d-dunyā | wa'innahū fi l-ākhirati lamina ṣ-ṣāliḥīn

    And We gave to him Isaac and Jacob and placed in his descendants prophethood and scripture. And We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, he is in the Hereafter among the righteous.

28. 29:28 ▶

    وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿٢٨﴾

    walūṭan 'idh qāla liqawmihī 'innakum lata'tūna l-fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min 'aḥadim mina l-ʿālamīn

    And [mention] Lot, when he said to his people, "Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds.

29. 29:29 ▶

    أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ ٱلسَّبِيلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِى نَادِيكُمُ ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱئْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ ﴿٢٩﴾

    a'innakum lata'tūna r-rijāla wataqṭaʿūna s-sabīla wata'tūna fī nādīkumu l-munkar | famā kāna jawāba qawmihī 'illā 'an qālu 'tinā biʿadhābi llāhi 'in kunta mina ṣ-ṣādiqīn

    Indeed, you approach men and obstruct the road and commit in your meetings [every] evil." And the answer of his people was not but that they said, "Bring us the punishment of Allāh, if you should be of the truthful."

    i.e., commit highway robbery and acts of aggression against travelers.

30. 29:30 ▶

    قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ ﴿٣٠﴾

    qāla rabbi nṣurnī ʿala l-qawmi l-mufsidīn

    He said, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people."

31. 29:31 ▶

    وَلَمَّا جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مُهْلِكُوٓا۟ أَهْلِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِينَ ﴿٣١﴾

    walammā jā'at rusulunā 'ibrāhīma bil-bushrā qālū 'innā muhlikū 'ahli hādhihi l-qaryah | inna 'ahlahā kānū ẓālimīn

    And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Abraham with the good tidings, they said, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of that [i.e., Lot's] city. Indeed, its people have been wrongdoers."

    Of the birth of Isaac and his descendant, Jacob.

32. 29:32 ▶

    قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا ۚ قَالُوا۟ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا ۖ لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُۥ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ كَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ ﴿٣٢﴾

    qāla 'inna fīhā lūṭā | qālū naḥnu 'aʿlamu biman fīhā | lanunajjiyannahū wa'ahlahū 'illa mra'atahū kānat mina l-ghābirīn

    [Abraham] said, "Indeed, within it is Lot." They said, "We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind."

33. 29:33 ▶

    وَلَمَّآ أَن جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِىٓءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ ۖ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ ﴿٣٣﴾

    walammā 'an jā'at rusulunā lūṭan sī'a bihim waḍāqa bihim dharʿaw waqālū lā takhaf walā taḥzan | innā munajjūka wa'ahlaka 'illa mra'ataka kānat mina l-ghābirīn

    And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort. They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she is to be of those who remain behind.

34. 29:34 ▶

    إِنَّا مُنزِلُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ رِجْزًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْسُقُونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

    innā munzilūna ʿalā 'ahli hādhihi l-qaryati rijzam mina s-samā'i bimā kānū yafsuqūn

    Indeed, we will bring down on the people of this city punishment from the sky because they have been defiantly disobedient."

35. 29:35 ▶

    وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَا مِنْهَآ ءَايَةًۢ بَيِّنَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

    walaqat taraknā minhā 'āyatam bayyinatal liqawmiy yaʿqilūn

    And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.

36. 29:36 ▶

    وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱرْجُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾

    wa'ilā madyana 'akhāhum shuʿayban faqāla yāqawmi ʿbudu llāha warju l-yawma l-ākhira walā taʿthaw fi l-arḍi mufsidīn

    And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh and expect the Last Day and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."

37. 29:37 ▶

    فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

    fakadhdhabūhu fa'akhadhat-humu r-rajfatu fa'aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn

    But they denied him, so the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.

38. 29:38 ▶

    وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَا۟ وَقَد تَّبَيَّنَ لَكُم مِّن مَّسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۖ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَكَانُوا۟ مُسْتَبْصِرِينَ ﴿٣٨﴾

    waʿādaw wathamūda waqat tabayyana lakum mim masākinihim | wazayyana lahumu sh-shayṭānu 'aʿmālahum faṣaddahum ʿani s-sabīli wakānū mustabṣirīn

    And [We destroyed] ʿAad and Thamūd, and it has become clear to you from their [ruined] dwellings. And Satan had made pleasing to them their deeds and averted them from the path, and they were endowed with perception.

39. 29:39 ▶

    وَقَـٰرُونَ وَفِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مُّوسَىٰ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ سَـٰبِقِينَ ﴿٣٩﴾

    waqārūna wafirʿawna wahāmān | walaqad jā'ahum mūsā bil-bayyināti fastakbarū fi l-arḍi wamā kānū sābiqīn

    And [We destroyed] Qārūn and Pharaoh and Hāmān. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment].

40. 29:40 ▶

    فَكُلًّا أَخَذْنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ حَاصِبًا وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ خَسَفْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ ﴿٤٠﴾

    fakullan 'akhadhnā bidhambih | faminhum man 'arsalnā ʿalayhi ḥāṣibaw waminhum man 'akhadhat-hu ṣ-ṣayḥatu waminhum man khasafnā bihi l-arḍa waminhum man 'aghraqnā | wamā kāna llāhu liyaẓlimahum walākin kānū 'anfusahum yaẓlimūn

    So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allāh would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.

41. 29:41 ▶

    مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ كَمَثَلِ ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ٱتَّخَذَتْ بَيْتًا ۖ وَإِنَّ أَوْهَنَ ٱلْبُيُوتِ لَبَيْتُ ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ۖ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤١﴾

    mathalu lladhīna ttakhadhū min dūni llāhi 'awliyā'a kamathali l-ʿankabūti ttakhadhat baytā | wa'inna 'awhana l-buyūti labaytu l-ʿankabūt | law kānū yaʿlamūn

    The example of those who take allies other than Allāh is like that of the spider who takes [i.e., constructs] a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.

42. 29:42 ▶

    إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ﴿٤٢﴾

    inna llāha yaʿlamu mā yadʿūna min dūnihī min shay' | wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

    Indeed, Allāh knows whatever thing they call upon other than Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

    In worship.

43. 29:43 ▶

    وَتِلْكَ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ ۖ وَمَا يَعْقِلُهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْعَـٰلِمُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾

    watilka l-amthālu naḍribuhā lin-nās | wamā yaʿqiluhā 'illa l-ʿālimūn

    And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.

44. 29:44 ▶

    خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿٤٤﴾

    khalaqa llāhu s-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqq | inna fī dhālika la'āyatal lil-mu'minīn

    Allāh created the heavens and the earth in truth. Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

45. 29:45 ▶

    ٱتْلُ مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ وَلَذِكْرُ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ ﴿٤٥﴾

    utlu mā 'ūḥiya 'ilayka mina l-kitābi wa'aqimi ṣ-ṣalāh | inna ṣ-ṣalāta tanhā ʿani l-faḥshā'i wal-munkar | waladhikru llāhi 'akbar | wallāhu yaʿlamu mā taṣnaʿūn

    Recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allāh is greater. And Allāh knows that which you do.

46. 29:46 ▶

    ۞ وَلَا تُجَـٰدِلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَأُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُنَا وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَٰحِدٌ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ ﴿٤٦﴾

    walā tujādilū 'ahla l-kitābi 'illā billatī hiya 'aḥsanu 'illa lladhīna ẓalamū minhum waqūlū 'āmannā billadhī 'unzila 'ilaynā wa'unzila 'ilaykum wa'ilāhunā wa'ilāhukum wāḥiduw wanaḥnu lahū muslimūn

    And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

47. 29:47 ▶

    وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَمِنْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿٤٧﴾

    wakadhālika 'anzalnā 'ilayka l-kitāb | falladhīna 'ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yu'minūna bih | wamin hā'ulā'i may yu'minu bih | wamā yajḥadu bi'āyātinā 'illa l-kāfirūn

    And thus We have sent down to you the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān]. And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture believe in it. And among these [people of Makkah] are those who believe in it. And none reject Our verses except the disbelievers.

48. 29:48 ▶

    وَمَا كُنتَ تَتْلُوا۟ مِن قَبْلِهِۦ مِن كِتَـٰبٍ وَلَا تَخُطُّهُۥ بِيَمِينِكَ ۖ إِذًا لَّٱرْتَابَ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

    wamā kunta tatlū min qablihī min kitābiw walā takhuṭṭuhū biyamīnik | idhal lartāba l-mubṭilūn

    And you did not recite before it any scripture, nor did you inscribe one with your right hand. Then [i.e., otherwise] the falsifiers would have had [cause for] doubt.

49. 29:49 ▶

    بَلْ هُوَ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ﴿٤٩﴾

    bal huwa 'āyātum bayyinātun fī ṣudūri lladhīna 'ūtu l-ʿilm | wamā yajḥadu bi'āyātinā 'illa ẓ-ẓālimūn

    Rather, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses except the wrongdoers.

50. 29:50 ▶

    وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ ﴿٥٠﴾

    waqālū lawlā 'unzila ʿalayhi 'āyātum mir rabbih | qul 'innama l-āyātu ʿinda llāhi wa'innamā 'ana nadhīrum mubīn

    But they say, "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The signs are only with Allāh, and I am only a clear warner."

51. 29:51 ▶

    أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِهِمْ أَنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَرَحْمَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٥١﴾

    awalam yakfihim 'annā 'anzalnā ʿalayka l-kitāba yutlā ʿalayhim | inna fī dhālika laraḥmataw wadhikrā liqawmiy yu'minūn

    And is it not sufficient for them that We revealed to you the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] which is recited to them? Indeed in that is a mercy and reminder for a people who believe.

52. 29:52 ▶

    قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ شَهِيدًا ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ وَكَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ ﴿٥٢﴾

    qul kafā billāhi baynī wabaynakum shahīdā | yaʿlamu mā fi s-samāwāti wal-arḍ | walladhīna 'āmanū bil-bāṭili wakafarū billāhi 'ulā'ika humu l-khāsirūn

    Say, "Sufficient is Allāh between me and you as Witness. He knows what is in the heavens and earth. And they who have believed in falsehood and disbelieved in Allāh - it is those who are the losers."

53. 29:53 ▶

    وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ ۚ وَلَوْلَآ أَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى لَّجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ ﴿٥٣﴾

    wayastaʿjilūnaka bil-ʿadhāb | walawlā 'ajalum musammal lajā'ahumu l-ʿadhābu walaya'tiyannahum baghtataw wahum lā yashʿurūn

    And they urge you to hasten the punishment. And if not for [the decree of] a specified term, punishment would have reached them. But it will surely come to them suddenly while they perceive not.

54. 29:54 ▶

    يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿٥٤﴾

    yastaʿjilūnaka bil-ʿadhābi wa'inna jahannama lamuḥīṭatum bil-kāfirīn

    They urge you to hasten the punishment. And indeed, Hell will be encompassing of the disbelievers

55. 29:55 ▶

    يَوْمَ يَغْشَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِمْ وَيَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٥٥﴾

    yawma yaghshāhumu l-ʿadhābu min fawqihim wamin taḥti 'arjulihim wayaqūlu dhūqū mā kuntum taʿmalūn

    On the Day the punishment will cover them from above them and from below their feet and it is said, "Taste [the result of] what you used to do."

56. 29:56 ▶

    يَـٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ أَرْضِى وَٰسِعَةٌ فَإِيَّـٰىَ فَٱعْبُدُونِ ﴿٥٦﴾

    yāʿibādiya lladhīna 'āmanū 'inna 'arḍī wāsiʿatun fa'iyyāya faʿbudūn

    O My servants who have believed, indeed My earth is spacious, so worship only Me.

57. 29:57 ▶

    كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ ﴿٥٧﴾

    kullu nafsin dhā'iqatu l-mawti thumma 'ilaynā turjaʿūn

    Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned.

58. 29:58 ▶

    وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ غُرَفًا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ نِعْمَ أَجْرُ ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ ﴿٥٨﴾

    walladhīna 'āmanū waʿamilu ṣ-ṣāliḥāti lanubawwi'annahum mina l-jannati ghurafan tajrī min taḥtiha l-anhāru khālidīna fīhā | niʿma 'ajru l-ʿāmilīn

    And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - We will surely assign to them of Paradise [elevated] chambers beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers

59. 29:59 ▶

    ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ﴿٥٩﴾

    alladhīna ṣabarū waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūn

    Who have been patient and upon their Lord rely.

60. 29:60 ▶

    وَكَأَيِّن مِّن دَآبَّةٍ لَّا تَحْمِلُ رِزْقَهَا ٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُهَا وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ﴿٦٠﴾

    waka'ayyim min dābbatil lā taḥmilu rizqaha llāhu yarzuquhā wa'iyyākum | wahuwa s-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

    And how many a creature carries not its [own] provision. Allāh provides for it and for you. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

61. 29:61 ▶

    وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ ﴿٦١﴾

    wala'in sa'altahum man khalaqa s-samāwāti wal-arḍa wasakhkhara sh-shamsa wal-qamara layaqūlunna llāh | fa'annā yu'fakūn

    If you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Then how are they deluded?

62. 29:62 ▶

    ٱللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ﴿٦٢﴾

    allāhu yabsuṭu r-rizqa limay yashā'u min ʿibādihī wayaqdiru lah | inna llāha bikulli shay'in ʿalīm

    Allāh extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts for him. Indeed Allāh is, of all things, Knowing.

63. 29:63 ▶

    وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّن نَّزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَوْتِهَا لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۚ قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ ﴿٦٣﴾

    wala'in sa'altahum man nazzala mina s-samā'i mā'an fa'aḥyā bihi l-arḍa mim baʿdi mawtihā layaqūlunna llāh | quli l-ḥamdu lillāh | bal 'aktharuhum lā yaʿqilūn

    And if you asked them, "Who sends down rain from the sky and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness?" they would surely say, "Allāh." Say, "Praise to Allāh"; but most of them do not reason.

64. 29:64 ▶

    وَمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ لَهِىَ ٱلْحَيَوَانُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٦٤﴾

    wamā hādhihi l-ḥayātu d-dunyā 'illā lahwuw walaʿib | wa'inna d-dāra l-ākhirata lahiya l-ḥayawān | law kānū yaʿlamūn

    And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter - that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew.

65. 29:65 ▶

    فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ ﴿٦٥﴾

    fa'idhā rakibū fi l-fulki daʿawu llāha mukhliṣīna lahu d-dīna falammā najjāhum 'ila l-barri 'idhā hum yushrikūn

    And when they board a ship, they supplicate Allāh, sincere to Him in religion [i.e., faith and hope]. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Him

66. 29:66 ▶

    لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٦٦﴾

    liyakfurū bimā 'ātaynāhum waliyatamattaʿū | fasawfa yaʿlamūn

    So that they will deny what We have granted them, and they will enjoy themselves. But they are going to know.

    Grammatically, the verse may also be read as a threat, i.e., "So let them deny what We have granted them and let them enjoy themselves, for they are going to know."

67. 29:67 ▶

    أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا جَعَلْنَا حَرَمًا ءَامِنًا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ ٱلنَّاسُ مِنْ حَوْلِهِمْ ۚ أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَكْفُرُونَ ﴿٦٧﴾

    awalam yaraw 'annā jaʿalnā ḥaraman 'āminaw wayutakhaṭṭafu n-nāsu min ḥawlihim | afabil-bāṭili yu'minūna wabiniʿmati llāhi yakfurūn

    Have they not seen that We made [Makkah] a safe sanctuary, while people are being taken away all around them? Then in falsehood do they believe, and in the favor of Allāh they disbelieve?

    i.e., killed and taken captive.

68. 29:68 ▶

    وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿٦٨﴾

    waman 'aẓlamu mimmani ftarā ʿala llāhi kadhiban 'aw kadhdhaba bil-ḥaqqi lammā jā'ah | alaysa fī jahannama mathwal lil-kāfirīn

    And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allāh or denies the truth when it has come to him? Is there not in Hell a [sufficient] residence for the disbelievers?

69. 29:69 ▶

    وَٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿٦٩﴾

    walladhīna jāhadū fīnā lanahdiyannahum subulanā | wa'inna llāha lamaʿa l-muḥsinīn

    And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allāh is with the doers of good.

    The various ways and means to attain the acceptance and pleasure of Allāh.

In the transliteration, “|”: the reciter stops; “·”: sakt, a brief cut without taking a breath.
