وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٲهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِى بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ ﴿٢٦﴾

إِبْرَٰهِيمُ

لِأَبِيهِ

li-abīhi

to his father

وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ

and his people

إِنَّنِى

innanī

Indeed, I (am)

بَرَآءٌۭ

barāon

disassociated

مِّمَّا

mimmā

from what

تَعْبُدُونَ

taʿbudūna

you worship

27

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى فَإِنَّهُۥ سَيَهْدِينِ ﴿٢٧﴾

Except

ٱلَّذِى

alladhī

the One Who

فَطَرَنِى

faṭaranī

created me

فَإِنَّهُۥ

fa-innahu

and indeed, He

سَيَهْدِينِ

sayahdīni

will guide me

28

وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةَۢ بَاقِيَةً فِى عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ﴿٢٨﴾

وَجَعَلَهَا

wajaʿalahā

And he made it

كَلِمَةًۢ

بَاقِيَةًۭ

فِى

عَقِبِهِۦ

laʿallahum

so that they may

يَرْجِعُونَ

29

بَلْ مَتَّعْتُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ وَرَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ ﴿٢٩﴾

Nay

مَتَّعْتُ

mattaʿtu

I gave enjoyment

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

hāulāi

(to) these

وَءَابَآءَهُمْ

waābāahum

and their forefathers

حَتَّىٰ

ḥattā

جَآءَهُمُ

jāahumu

came to them

ٱلْحَقُّ

l-ḥaqu

the truth

وَرَسُولٌۭ

warasūlun

and a Messenger

مُّبِينٌۭ

mubīnun

clear

30

وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ قَالُواْ هَـٰذَا سِحْرٌ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿٣٠﴾

جَآءَهُمُ

ٱلْحَقُّ

قَالُوا۟

هَـٰذَا

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

بِهِۦ

bihi

of it

كَـٰفِرُونَ

kāfirūna

(are) disbelievers

31

وَقَالُواْ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنَ ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ ﴿٣١﴾

And they say

لَوْلَا

نُزِّلَ

nuzzila

was sent down

هَـٰذَا

ٱلْقُرْءَانُ

رَجُلٍۢ

rajulin

a man

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ

l-qaryatayni

the two towns

عَظِيمٍ

ʿaẓīmin

great

32

أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ‌ۚ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٲةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا‌ۚ وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَـٰتٍ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا‌ۗ وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

رَبِّكَ ۚ

بَيْنَهُم

مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ

their livelihood

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

l-ḥayati

the life

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

l-dun'yā

(of) the world

وَرَفَعْنَا

warafaʿnā

and We raise

بَعْضَهُمْ

baʿḍahum

some of them

فَوْقَ

fawqa

above

بَعْضٍۢ

baʿḍin

others

دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ

darajātin

(in) degrees

لِّيَتَّخِذَ

liyattakhidha

so that may take

بَعْضُهُم

baʿḍuhum

some of them

بَعْضًۭا

baʿḍan

others

سُخْرِيًّۭا ۗ

sukh'riyyan

(for) service

وَرَحْمَتُ

waraḥmatu

But (the) Mercy

رَبِّكَ

rabbika

(of) your Lord

خَيْرٌۭ

khayrun

(is) better

مِّمَّا

mimmā

than what

يَجْمَعُونَ

yajmaʿūna

they accumulate

33

وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٲحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ ﴿٣٣﴾

وَلَوْلَآ

walawlā

And if not

أَن

an

that

يَكُونَ

yakūna

(would) become

ٱلنَّاسُ

l-nāsu

[the] mankind

أُمَّةًۭ

ummatan

a community

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

wāḥidatan

one

لَّجَعَلْنَا

lajaʿalnā

We (would have) made

لِمَن

liman

for (one) who

يَكْفُرُ

yakfuru

disbelieves

بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

bil-raḥmāni

in the Most Gracious

لِبُيُوتِهِمْ

libuyūtihim

for their houses

سُقُفًۭا

suqufan

roofs

مِّن

min

of

فِضَّةٍۢ

fiḍḍatin

silver

وَمَعَارِجَ

wamaʿārija

and stairways

عَلَيْهَا

ʿalayhā

upon which

يَظْهَرُونَ

yaẓharūna

they mount

34

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ أَبْوَٲبًا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيْهَا يَتَّكِــُٔونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ

walibuyūtihim

And for their houses

أَبْوَٰبًۭا

abwāban

doors

وَسُرُرًا

wasururan

and couches

عَلَيْهَا

ʿalayhā

upon which

يَتَّكِـُٔونَ

yattakiūna

they recline

35

وَزُخْرُفًا‌ۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٲلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٲةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا‌ۚ وَٱلْأَخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٣٥﴾

وَزُخْرُفًۭا ۚ

wazukh'rufan

And ornaments of gold

وَإِن

wa-in

And not (is)

كُلُّ

kullu

all

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

that

لَمَّا

lammā

but

مَتَـٰعُ

matāʿu

an enjoyment

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

l-ḥayati

(of) the life

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

l-dun'yā

(of) the world

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ

wal-ākhiratu

And the Hereafter

عِندَ

ʿinda

with

رَبِّكَ

rabbika

your Lord

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

lil'muttaqīna

(is) for the righteous

36

وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُۥ شَيْطَـٰنًا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِينٌ ﴿٣٦﴾

Word-by-word

وَمَن

waman

And whoever

يَعْشُ

yaʿshu

turns away

عَن

ʿan

from

ذِكْرِ

dhik'ri

(the) remembrance

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

l-raḥmāni

(of) the Most Gracious

نُقَيِّضْ

nuqayyiḍ

We appoint

لَهُۥ

lahu

for him

شَيْطَـٰنًۭا

shayṭānan

a devil

فَهُوَ

fahuwa

then he

لَهُۥ

lahu

(is) to him

قَرِينٌۭ

qarīnun

a companion

37

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ ﴿٣٧﴾

وَإِنَّهُمْ

wa-innahum

And indeed, they

لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ

layaṣuddūnahum

surely, turn them

عَنِ

ʿani

from

ٱلسَّبِيلِ

l-sabīli

the Path

وَيَحْسَبُونَ

wayaḥsabūna

and they think

أَنَّهُم

annahum

that they

مُّهْتَدُونَ

muh'tadūna

(are) guided

38

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَنَا قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرِينُ ﴿٣٨﴾

حَتَّىٰٓ

ḥattā

Until

إِذَا

idhā

when

جَآءَنَا

jāanā

he comes to Us

قَالَ

qāla

he says

يَـٰلَيْتَ

yālayta

O would that

بَيْنِى

baynī

between me

وَبَيْنَكَ

wabaynaka

and between you

بُعْدَ

buʿ'da

(were the) distance

ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ

l-mashriqayni

(of) the East and the West

فَبِئْسَ

fabi'sa

How wretched is

ٱلْقَرِينُ

l-qarīnu

the companion

39

وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ ﴿٣٩﴾

وَلَن

walan

And never

يَنفَعَكُمُ

yanfaʿakumu

will benefit you

ٱلْيَوْمَ

l-yawma

the Day

إِذ

idh

when

ظَّلَمْتُمْ

ẓalamtum

you have wronged

أَنَّكُمْ

that you

فِى

(will be) in

ٱلْعَذَابِ

l-ʿadhābi

the punishment

مُشْتَرِكُونَ

mush'tarikūna

40

أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِى ٱلْعُمْىَ وَمَن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ ﴿٤٠﴾

أَفَأَنتَ

Then can you

تُسْمِعُ

tus'miʿu

cause to hear

ٱلصُّمَّ

l-ṣuma

the deaf

أَوْ

or

تَهْدِى

guide

ٱلْعُمْىَ

the blind

وَمَن

waman

and (one) who

كَانَ

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

ḍalālin

an error

مُّبِينٍۢ

mubīnin

clear

41

فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ ﴿٤١﴾

فَإِمَّا

fa-immā

And whether

نَذْهَبَنَّ

nadhhabanna

We take you away

بِكَ

bika

We take you away

فَإِنَّا

fa-innā

then indeed, We

مِنْهُم

min'hum

from them

مُّنتَقِمُونَ

muntaqimūna

(will) take retribution

42

أَوْ نُرِيَنَّكَ ٱلَّذِى وَعَدْنَـٰهُمْ فَإِنَّا عَلَيْهِم مُّقْتَدِرُونَ ﴿٤٢﴾

Or

نُرِيَنَّكَ

nuriyannaka

We show you

ٱلَّذِى

alladhī

that which

وَعَدْنَـٰهُمْ

waʿadnāhum

We have promised them

فَإِنَّا

fa-innā

then indeed, We

عَلَيْهِم

ʿalayhim

over them

مُّقْتَدِرُونَ

muq'tadirūna

have full power

43

فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ‌ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ ﴿٤٣﴾

فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ

fa-is'tamsik

So hold fast

بِٱلَّذِىٓ

bi-alladhī

to that which

أُوحِىَ

ūḥiya

is revealed

إِلَيْكَ ۖ

ilayka

to you

إِنَّكَ

innaka

Indeed, you

عَلَىٰ

ʿalā

(are) on

صِرَٰطٍۢ

ṣirāṭin

a Path

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

mus'taqīmin

Straight

44

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَذِكْرٌ لَّكَ وَلِقَوْمِكَ‌ۖ وَسَوْفَ تُسْــَٔلُونَ ﴿٤٤﴾

وَإِنَّهُۥ

wa-innahu

And indeed, it

لَذِكْرٌۭ

ladhik'run

(is) surely, a Reminder

لَّكَ

laka

for you

وَلِقَوْمِكَ ۖ

waliqawmika

and your people

وَسَوْفَ

wasawfa

and soon

تُسْـَٔلُونَ

tus'alūna

you will be questioned

45

وَسْــَٔلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَآ أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ءَالِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ ﴿٤٥﴾

وَسْـَٔلْ

wasal

And ask

مَنْ

man

(those) whom

أَرْسَلْنَا

arsalnā

We sent

before you

قَبْلِكَ

qablika

رُّسُلِنَآ

أَجَعَلْنَا

ajaʿalnā

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

ءَالِهَةًۭ

ālihatan

gods

يُعْبَدُونَ

yuʿ'badūna

to be worshipped

46

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِيْهِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّى رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿٤٦﴾

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

أَرْسَلْنَا

arsalnā

We sent

مُوسَىٰ

mūsā

Musa

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

biāyātinā

with Our Signs

إِلَىٰ

ilā

to

فِرْعَوْنَ

fir'ʿawna

Firaun

وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ

wamala-ihi

and his chiefs

فَقَالَ

faqāla

and he said

إِنِّى

innī

Indeed, I am

رَسُولُ

rasūlu

a Messenger

رَبِّ

rabbi

(of the) Lord

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

l-ʿālamīna

(of) the worlds

47

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَضْحَكُونَ ﴿٤٧﴾

Word-by-word

فَلَمَّا

falammā

But when

جَآءَهُم

jāahum

he came to them

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

biāyātinā

with Our Signs

إِذَا

idhā

behold

هُم

hum

They

مِّنْهَا

min'hā

at them

يَضْحَكُونَ

yaḍḥakūna

laughed

48

وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِىَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا‌ۖ وَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

وَمَا

wamā

And not

نُرِيهِم

nurīhim

We showed them

مِّنْ

min

of

ءَايَةٍ

āyatin

a Sign

إِلَّا

illā

but

هِىَ

hiya

it

أَكْبَرُ

akbaru

(was) greater

مِنْ

than

أُخْتِهَا ۖ

ukh'tihā

its sister

وَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم

wa-akhadhnāhum

and We seized them

بِٱلْعَذَابِ

bil-ʿadhābi

with the punishment

لَعَلَّهُمْ

laʿallahum

so that they may

يَرْجِعُونَ

yarjiʿūna

return

49

وَقَالُواْ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ ٱدْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ ﴿٤٩﴾

وَقَالُوا۟

And they said

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ

yāayyuha

O

ٱلسَّاحِرُ

l-sāḥiru

[the] magician

ٱدْعُ

ud'ʿu

Invoke

لَنَا

lanā

for us

رَبَّكَ

rabbaka

your Lord

بِمَا

bimā

by what

عَهِدَ

ʿahida

He has made covenant

عِندَكَ

ʿindaka

with you

إِنَّنَا

innanā

Indeed, we

لَمُهْتَدُونَ

lamuh'tadūna

(will) surely be guided

50

فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ ﴿٥٠﴾

But when

كَشَفْنَا

kashafnā

We removed

عَنْهُمُ

ʿanhumu

from them

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

إِذَا
