إِذَا

idhā

When

ٱلشَّمْسُ

l-shamsu

the sun

كُوِّرَتْ

kuwwirat

is wrapped up

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلنُّجُومُ

l-nujūmu

the stars

ٱنكَدَرَتْ

inkadarat

fall, losing their luster

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْجِبَالُ

l-jibālu

the mountains

سُيِّرَتْ

suyyirat

are moved away

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْعِشَارُ

l-ʿishāru

the full-term she-camels

عُطِّلَتْ

ʿuṭṭilat

(are) left untended

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْوُحُوشُ

l-wuḥūshu

the wild beasts

حُشِرَتْ

ḥushirat

are gathered

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْبِحَارُ

l-biḥāru

the seas

سُجِّرَتْ

sujjirat

are made to overflow

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلنُّفُوسُ

l-nufūsu

the souls

زُوِّجَتْ

zuwwijat

are paired

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ

l-mawūdatu

the female infant buried alive

سُئِلَتْ

su-ilat

is asked

بِأَىِّ

bi-ayyi

For what

ذَنۢبٍۢ

dhanbin

sin

قُتِلَتْ

qutilat

she was killed

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلصُّحُفُ

l-ṣuḥufu

the pages

نُشِرَتْ

nushirat

are laid open

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلسَّمَآءُ

l-samāu

the sky

كُشِطَتْ

kushiṭat

is stripped away

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْجَحِيمُ

l-jaḥīmu

the Hellfire

سُعِّرَتْ

suʿʿirat

is set ablaze

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

ٱلْجَنَّةُ

l-janatu

Paradise

أُزْلِفَتْ

uz'lifat

is brought near

عَلِمَتْ

ʿalimat

Will know

نَفْسٌۭ

nafsun

a soul

مَّآ

mā

what

أَحْضَرَتْ

aḥḍarat

it has brought

فَلَآ

falā

But nay

أُقْسِمُ

uq'simu

I swear

بِٱلْخُنَّسِ

bil-khunasi

by the retreating planets

ٱلْجَوَارِ

al-jawāri

Those that run

ٱلْكُنَّسِ

l-kunasi

(and) disappear

وَٱلَّيْلِ

wa-al-layli

And the night

إِذَا

idhā

when

عَسْعَسَ

ʿasʿasa

it departs

وَٱلصُّبْحِ

wal-ṣub'ḥi

And the dawn

إِذَا

idhā

when

تَنَفَّسَ

tanaffasa

it breathes

إِنَّهُۥ

innahu

Indeed, it

لَقَوْلُ

laqawlu

(is) surely a word

رَسُولٍۢ

rasūlin

(of) a Messenger

كَرِيمٍۢ

karīmin

noble

ذِى

dhī

Possessor of

قُوَّةٍ

quwwatin

power

عِندَ

ʿinda

with

ذِى

dhī

(the) Owner of

ٱلْعَرْشِ

l-ʿarshi

the Throne

مَكِينٍۢ

makīnin

secure

مُّطَاعٍۢ

muṭāʿin

One to be obeyed

ثَمَّ

thamma

and

أَمِينٍۢ

amīnin

trustworthy

وَمَا

wamā

And not

صَاحِبُكُم

ṣāḥibukum

(is) your companion

بِمَجْنُونٍۢ

bimajnūnin

mad

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

رَءَاهُ

raāhu

he saw him

بِٱلْأُفُقِ

bil-ufuqi

in the horizon

ٱلْمُبِينِ

l-mubīni

the clear

وَمَا

wamā

And not

هُوَ

huwa

he (is)

عَلَى

ʿalā

on

ٱلْغَيْبِ

l-ghaybi

the unseen

بِضَنِينٍۢ

biḍanīnin

a withholder

وَمَا

wamā

And not

هُوَ

huwa

it

بِقَوْلِ

biqawli

(is the) word

شَيْطَـٰنٍۢ

shayṭānin

(of) Shaitaan

رَّجِيمٍۢ

rajīmin

accursed
